Vaughan joined Syft in 2002 after completing his PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of Canterbury (1997) and post-doctoral fellowships at the Universities of Geneva, Western Australia, and Canterbury.
As manager of Syft’s contract laboratory, Vaughan has worked extensively with customers to understand their analysis needs and develop market-tested SIFT-MS solutions.
Vaughan has experience across all SIFT-MS application areas, but has particular expertise in environmental and food industry applications. He is an expert in SIFT-MS application and method development.
In addition to the technical aspects of his role, Vaughan attends and presents on many of Syft’s webinars and attends various conferences on our behalf.
Direct air analysis using selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) provides broad-spectrum detection of diverse and reactive compounds, pptv detection limits with no preconcentration, and wide linear and dynamic ranges. However, this innovative analytical technique differs considerably from traditional and slower chromatography-based analytical methodologies in both sample delivery and optimization of the analysis. This means that when customers invest in SIFT-MS, there is much to learn so as to realize its full potential.

Delivered by experienced Syft personnel or our authorized distributors, these courses provide users with the theory and practical experience that underpin successful application of SIFT-MS. The modular nature of the courses means that they are also readily customized to meet a particular customer’s needs.
