The way we work could be changing forever as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you need help to adapt your SIFT-MS to ensure social distancing, speak to us directly or contact your local Syft distributor.

Every lab is different, and each will face its own challenges in complying with, the need to limit opportunities for spreading the SARS-Cov2 virus, while at the same time, getting the work done.

The good news is that this is a great opportunity to rethink the way we work and to find ways of working more efficiently. For example, one UK laboratory reported a 13% increase in productivity during the lock down!

How can this happen?

You just have to consider three things:

  1. Home working, in general, has been shown to be significantly more productive than working in an open-plan office. It is easier to concentrate with fewer interruptions and no time is wasted commuting.
  2. Video technology (Zoom, MS Teams, Google Meet) eliminates a lot of the time, cost and inconvenience of traveling.
  3. Restricting the number of humans working together in the laboratory or other confined space, forces a better use of automation (which may already exist, but not be fully utilized).

Fortunately, the Voice200 SIFT-MS is configured in a way that adapts readily to a socially distanced working environment. Set-up, operation, tuning and some maintenance can all be done remotely, so you don’t need to be close to the instrument to run it.

It is possible for multiple users in different locations, to have access to the same Voice200 from their own laptops. and a single operator can be responsible for physical interactions with the hardware. If you need help to set an arrangement like this up, please contact us.

As an instrument manufacturer, here at Syft Technologies, we suspect that requirements for social distancing have created a new set of instrument design requirements that didn’t exist a few months ago.

We are keen to hear of your experiences, ideas and opinions, so please tell us what you think; email us on info@syft.com or visit the contact page of our website.
